MULTI-PASSIONATE LEARNER & ENTREPRENEUR
It’s laughable now, but in college, I majored in accounting/pre-law, education, pre-pharmacy, back to accounting, then earth science education, back to pre-pharmacy, civil engineering, architecture (that landed me in a physics class/lab for aviation majors…long story!), radiologic technology, and toxicology. After working as a lifeguard one summer and experiencing the joy of teaching swimming lessons, a critical life skill, I changed my major back to elementary education and finally graduated with my BS degree. I had found a home in sharing the excitement of learning new things with others.
Four of my first five years after graduation were spent teaching young people computer literacy at a time when email and the world wide web were just starting to become mainstream. Teaching those seventh and eighth-graders to use the Internet, along with other basic computer skills, was very fulfilling and fun! It’s also where I myself learned to use a spreadsheet application and set up a computer network.
Throughout my years of teaching middle schoolers, I took graduate classes each semester and tutored high students in math. During that time, I earned a master’s degree in educational technology and, shortly afterwards, one in computer science.
In 2004, I launched Skylark Services to provide technology training to business clients. An Office 365 specialist and Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT), I provide Microsoft training to organizations, and thanks to my rich network of fellow MCTs who I feel blessed to call my friends, no organization is too large or too small. Fellow entrepreneurs have a very special place in my heart.
I’m also still a learner. My fascination with data science and artificial intelligence, particularly Azure Machine Learning, prompted me to enroll in the Microsoft Professional Program in Data Science. The level of mathematics needed to complete the program astonished me, and I drew heavily upon what I learned in my college courses in algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, and linear algebra. Because of that experience, I recently launched MathTutoring.Online to address what I perceive to be as a huge need.
Throughout my professional career, a common thread is my love of learning, coupled with a deep desire to help people improve their lives and organizations through education. Thanks for connecting with me. Let's keep the conversation going. Connect with me on Facebook, LinkedIn, or Twitter, send me a message, or book me to help you.
